A fresh wave of drama has erupted between Nigerian music stars Davido and Wizkid, centering around billionaire businessman Tony Elumelu and his recent association with Davido.
Tony Elumelu was trending after the United Bank for Africa (UBA) where he serves as chairman reportedly gave the floor to music superstar, Davido at what was reported to be the bank’s 40th anniversary in the United States of America, a move that the Wizkid camp kicked against.
The camp of Wizkid according to Twitter trends was offended by the fact that Wizkid has had a relationship with the UBA chairman in the past.
Twitter users went further to mock Wizkid for being invited to a Tony Elumelu family birthday but neglected at the world stage, being supposedly overlooked for Davido.
Wizkid, surprisingly, took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to throw shades at Davido, calling him “Frogido” and questioning his talent following the UBA gig.
The post quickly went viral, igniting mixed reactions from fans and critics alike.
Daniel Regha, a well-known social media critic, took aim at Wizkid’s comments, accusing the “Essence” singer of trying to stay relevant by attacking his colleagues. Regha argued that Wizkid’s repeated jabs at Davido reflect an attempt to gain the spotlight, especially as Davido’s career continues to thrive with high-profile endorsements and invitations like the UBA gig.
“The fact that you can’t promote your music or stay in the limelight without intentionally disrespecting your colleagues shows you need others to remain in the spotlight. Someone who’s big doesn’t need to remind the public of their status and accomplishments,” Regha tweeted in response.
Social media influencer ManLikelCey added fuel to the fire with bold claims that Wizkid’s bitterness could stem from the fact that Tony Elumelu chose to work with Davido over him. He even went as far as accusing Wizkid of being addicted to hard substances, further stirring up the online debate.
As the online feud escalates, it appears that Tony Elumelu whose gesture in philanthropy and promotion of private enterprise among the youths has found his seemingly good gesture under controversy with the Wizkid, Davido fight.
GWG.ng reports that Elumelu had in the past sought to avoid the path of controversy with his quiet work in the promotion of youth empowerment and before this time had only been dragged into controversy after he became one of the first public figures visited by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu after the 2023 election during which the UBA chairman hailed him as the Last Man Standing!
