A Nigerian woman, Olubunmi Okeniyi, has tragically passed away just a month after moving to the United Kingdom with her husband and two children.

Olubunmi arrived in Sunderland, UK, on September 16, 2024, and died on Sunday, October 13, 2024. The founder of the Nigerians in the UK Community, Oluomo of Derby, confirmed her death in a statement released on Monday.

The Nigerian community in the UK expressed its condolences and shared details of a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of her burial.

“With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Mrs. Olubunmi Okeniyi, who tragically passed away on the 13/10/24, at 4:30pm in Sunderland, UK,” the statement said.

“Mrs Olubunmi, who arrived from Nigeria with her two sons on 16/09/24, is survived by her husband, Mr. Jacob Okeniyi. We are urgently seeking donations to assist with her immediate burial, as her husband cannot afford the costs.”

The community is now rallying to support the grieving family during this difficult time.
