Breaking: Tinubu Orders Reduction Of Ministers Convoys, Security Details
In a bid to cut costs and streamline government spending, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a directive limiting federal ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys.
This new directive approved by President Tinubu on the ministers’ convoys also caps the number of security operatives assigned to these officials at five.
The announcement, made by Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga on Thursday, October 24, 2024, emphasized that no additional vehicles would be provided beyond this limit. According to Onanuga, President Tinubu signed the directive as part of ongoing efforts to reduce unnecessary government expenses.
“In January this year, President Tinubu took significant steps to curtail government expenditure, reducing his foreign trip entourage from 50 to 20 officials and trimming local trip delegations to 25,” the statement read. “The Vice President’s entourage was similarly reduced to five officials on international trips and 15 for local engagements.”
The latest directive mandates that ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies will have at most five security personnel, comprising four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) operative. “No additional security personnel will be assigned,” Onanuga emphasized.
Furthermore, the President instructed the National Security Adviser to consult with military, paramilitary, and other security agencies to establish a suitable reduction in their vehicle allocation and security details.

All affected officials have been directed to comply with the new measures immediately, underscoring the seriousness and urgency of the President’s cost-cutting initiative.
