Ikwechegh bail bolt driver

The eruption of the malevolent streak of Mr Alexander Mascot Ikwechegh, member representing Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives is another demonstration of the loopholes in the country’s leadership recruitment mechanism.

The video of Mr Ikwechegh publicly assaulting a delivery driver has revolted the nation. What is even more insidious is the fact that the supposed lawmaker knew he was being recorded on video and did not care a hoot about the possible leakage of his sinister conduct.

For a man who sits to make laws for the federation to publicly take the laws into his hands is certainly a reproach to public decency. It navigates the essence of good conduct that is required of men in high office. It is also a political shame.

GWG.ng affirms that his boasts of being above the law should not be seen as a careless verbal eruption. We call on the authorities to study his movements in recent days to ascertain if truly he has the capacity to make a Nigerian disappear. If so, he should be further quizzed as to determine whether those who had in the recent past stoked his fury have really disappeared.

While we welcome the intervention of the police top hierarchy who ordered his interrogation, we are, however, not amused by the fact that his victim, Mr Mr. Stephen Abuwatseya was subsequently detained at the Maitama Police Station. To add insult to the injury he suffered in the hands of Mr Ikwechegh, his car was also reportedly impounded by the police authorities at Maitama.

Undoubtedly, the victim was set to be charged with assault on Mr Ikwechegh until the provocative video of the supposed lawmaker breaking the law emerged.

GWG.ng demands an open enquiry as to the conduct of the police at Maitama Station. If Nigeria is truly an egalitarian society, Mr Ikwechegh should be compelled to face justice for his odious  sohold  and also those assigned to Ikwechegh.

We also commend the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA which has come out to denounce the conduct of Ikwechegh who was elected on the party’s platform.

We are, however, nonplussed by the silence of the House of Representatives and could have been positively shocked by a swift remonstration of the conduct of its member. The suggestion of the House is that it is waiting for police investigation into the undenied claims of the Aba lawmaker that he would cause a Nigerian to disappear.

GWG.ng asserts that the conduct of Ikwechegh points to faults in the recruitment of national leaders. Political leaders seeking public office must be interrogated through debates, character tests and other pressures to determine their fitness to be described as leaders.

Mr Ikwechegh has lost his credibility in the public office and except a deeply penitent remonstration, we submit that he should be put away permanently from the public space.
