21-Year-Old Murders Employer After One Month Of Work
Detectives in Nairobi have arrested a 21-year-old man, Victor Ambeyi, for the brutal killing of his 78-year-old employer, Catherine Waceke Kimotho, at her home in the Nyathain area of Kasarani.
According to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, Ambeyi tried to cover up the crime by wrapping the victim’s body in a blanket and hiding it in a septic tank on the property.
Kimotho, who had been reported missing since Saturday, was last seen at her home. Her family grew concerned when they could not reach her on her phone, which was switched off, and their efforts to locate her were unsuccessful.
On Sunday evening, detectives discovered the body hidden in the septic tank, wrapped in blankets. The victim had visible injuries to the back of her head, which investigators suspect were caused by a blunt object.
Following the discovery, the body was taken to Kenyatta University Funeral Home, and a manhunt for Ambeyi began. A team of detectives, led by Kasarani DCIO Justus Ombati and supported by the Criminal Research and Intelligence Bureau, immediately launched an investigation. After analyzing evidence and following a lead, they traced Ambeyi to his cousin’s house in Kinoo, Nairobi, where he had been hiding. Both Ambeyi and his cousin, 22-year-old Collins Seda Wanjau, were arrested and taken into custody.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Ambeyi had been working as a casual laborer at Kimotho’s home for about a month before the killing. During questioning, he confessed to attacking the elderly woman after she paid him less than the agreed amount for his work
The statement also revealed that after further investigation, detectives tracked the victim’s mobile phone to a repair shop in Githurai 44, where it was found in the possession of 22-year-old Benjamin Kimani Mwaura. Mwaura was arrested, and all three suspects were taken to Kasarani Police Station. The authorities are continuing to investigate the motive behind this tragic crime, and the suspects are expected to be arraigned in court soon.
