BREAKING: Speaker Survives As 5 Die In Boat Accident
The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, was reportedly involved in a tragic boat accident that claimed five lives in Delta State.
The incident occurred on the Bennett Island River in the Warri South Local Government Area, leaving several injured and many unaccounted for.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the accident resulted in six injuries, with one person still missing.
A statement released by Guwor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, on Wednesday revealed that the Speaker was present during the mishap but miraculously survived. The statement detailed that the Speaker was on his way back to Asaba via Warri after meeting with constituents on Friday, November 22, 2024, when the accident occurred.
“Mr. Speaker is deeply saddened by the tragic boat mishap that took place along Bennett Island River, claiming the lives of five people and leaving several others injured,” the statement read. It noted that the collision between boats nearly involved the one ferrying the Speaker.
Expressing his grief, Guwor extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, saying, “His heart goes out to the families of the deceased, and he prays for the strength to bear these irreparable losses.”
The Speaker also commended the swift efforts of rescue teams and medical personnel who attended to the survivors. “He thanks God for sparing his life and that of others who survived the mishap,” the statement added.
Calling for a thorough investigation, Guwor emphasized the need to identify the cause of the accident and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
“Once again, Mr. Speaker commiserates with the families of the victims and prays for the repose of their souls,” the statement concluded.
