2027: Critics Mock As APC Chief Roils In ‘Tears’ Over Gang-Up Against Tinubu
By Benjamin Abioye
A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has claimed that a coordinated plot is underway to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 presidential election.
His remarks have sparked a range of reactions, with some questioning the validity of the claim and others highlighting the need to focus on Nigeria’s current challenges.
Igbokwe took to his Facebook page to alert Nigerians about an alleged scheme against Tinubu. He claimed that certain individuals, whose names were disclosed to him in phone calls, are leading the conspiracy. However, he expressed confidence in Tinubu’s ability to overcome any obstacles, stating, “There has been a funny/crooked gang up against PBAT come 2027. They have been calling my phones. The callers even mentioned the names of the schemers, and I laughed until tears started coming out of my eyes. They do not know about PBAT.”
The claim of a gang-up has generated mixed reactions, with some dismissing the allegation as an exaggeration and others criticizing the focus on future elections while the country grapples with immediate issues. One respondent asked, “Agbalanze, gang up? Are we no longer in a democracy where people can align and re-align? Do we now call what happened in 2015 against GEJ a gang up by APC? We all know the number of PDP members that joined APC and even the then chairman worked for Buhari allegedly, but the victory was savored.”
Others pointed to Nigeria’s pressing economic and social issues, urging the government to prioritize the present over future political ambitions. “Please let’s be concerned about now and leave 2027. It’s only God that knows who will be alive in 2027. Nigeria is choking now, and let’s solve the immediate problems,” another respondent said.
Some critics expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of governance under Tinubu, questioning whether the administration’s priorities align with the needs of the people. “Is it only scheming for elections that PBAT knows? Anyone can be removed from office; PBAT isn’t a God,” one critic noted.
Others reflected on the irony of Tinubu’s political journey. “Were they not the ones that took him there? Well, they may not know him, but they will shock him,” a commenter quipped.
Several individuals argued that focusing on national issues such as poverty, corruption, and insecurity should take precedence over concerns about the next election. “Chief, what has 2027 got to do with fixing Nigeria’s present problems? Are there no important things more than 2027 elections?” one reaction read.
The discourse highlights a divide between those supporting Tinubu’s leadership and those demanding immediate action to address Nigeria’s pressing challenges. While Igbokwe’s statement has drawn attention, it also underscores the public’s call for a shift in focus toward solving the country’s current problems rather than future political maneuvering.
