An emotional moment unfolded on the internet when Yoruba film actor Princess Adenrele Ademola, better known as Lanko Omo Dubai, shared a deeply personal story about his late father. In a podcast interview with Talk2Dunni, Lanko opened up about the painful rejection he experienced from his father for choosing acting as a career and the strained relationship they had for many years.

Lanko recalled a particularly emotional experience during his father’s final days. He explained, “My father was very ill when he was about to pass away. I was working as an MC in Ketu when I received a call that my father was at the general hospital. I rushed there the next morning, and when I arrived, there was a loud commotion, with people cheering for me. The doctor was confused by the noise in the emergency ward and asked what was going on. I told him, ‘That’s my father.’ The doctor couldn’t believe it, and immediately, they moved my father out of the emergency ward. His legs were swollen, so they put him in a wheelchair.”

Lanko continued, describing the heart-wrenching moment when he returned to his father after completing some formalities. “When I came back, I found my father crying. He told me that if anyone had told him that I would be the one to take care of him, he would have laughed it off. But now, he thanked God for the way things turned out,” Lanko said, his voice filled with emotion.

The story has since sparked a wave of reactions online, with many people sharing their own experiences of family struggles and reconciling with loved ones. One commenter, @MideFX, reflected, “This story is just like mine. I nearly died from drug abuse in 2017/2018. Everyone turned their back on me because of it, but thank God, I’m now the favorite child.”

@simplemn90 commented, “This is what happens when parents overlook the potential in their children. They only start loving them when they see their success.”

Others shared similar feelings of being misunderstood or rejected in their own families. @OtunbaBode Obiniokup expressed, “Why does my cry feel more intense than Lanko’s? Rest in peace, Baba Lanko.”

@DejiMecury added, “Creative people go through so much. No one believes in your dreams until you make it.”

Several commenters also reflected on their own journeys of overcoming adversity, with @segunodunuyiwa sharing, “This is exactly my story, but thank God I’m now the favorite child. My father once thought the children he believed were the best would succeed, but I turned out to be the one he never expected.”

The heartfelt story has resonated deeply with many, shedding light on the struggles and triumphs of those who have faced rejection or misunderstanding in their families, only to find redemption later. It serves as a reminder that family dynamics can change, and people can find strength in unexpected places.
