Justin Trudeau Resignation As Prime Minister

Justin Trudeau has announced his decision to resign as both the leader of his party and as Canada’s prime minister once a new leader is selected.

Trudeau explained that he made the choice to resign after having long discussions with his family, whose support he credited for his success. Trudeau shared the news with his children over dinner the night before.

In his resignation statement, Trudeau said, “This country deserves a real choice” in the next election. He recognized that, given the internal challenges he faced, he was no longer the best candidate for Canadians. He mentioned that Parliament had been “paralyzed for months,” referring to what he called the longest session of a minority parliament in Canadian history.

Trudeau also emphasized the need for a new session of Parliament, stating that the house would be prorogued until March 24. He expressed eagerness to see the process of choosing his successor unfold in the coming months.

Reflecting on his tenure, Trudeau noted that his party was re-elected in 2021 to help strengthen the economy after the pandemic and to advance Canada’s interests. He assured that this mission would continue as his party works towards these goals.
