Social media was set abuzz after a condolence call from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Fuji music legend King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1 De Ultimate) stirred an unexpected controversy.

However, the focus quickly shifted from the solemn nature of the conversation to the language K1 used in addressing the President. In a viral clip shared online, K1 employed the Yoruba words “O” and “Iwo” when referring to Tinubu. In Yoruba culture, these terms are often used to address people within the same age group or social standing.
Many netizens criticized the Fuji maestro for what they deemed disrespectful language towards the nation’s leader, arguing that more deferential words, like “E” or “Ẹyin,” would have been appropriate. Some accused him of disregarding cultural protocols, prompting a flurry of reactions in the comment section.
Others, however, defended K1, stating that the terms he used during the call from Tinubu do not carry offensive weight in casual conversations and that such usage varies depending on familiarity and personal rapport.
