Champions League: Why We Lost To Real Madrid – Man City Manager, Guardiola
By Gideon Ayeni

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has admitted that Real Madrid’s early goal was crucial in their 3-1 victory over his side in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.
Los Blancos entered the second-leg clash at the Santiago Bernabéu with a narrow 3-2 lead from the first leg. However, within just five minutes, Kylian Mbappe put Real Madrid ahead, expertly chipping the ball over Man City goalkeeper Ederson.
Mbappe went on to complete a stunning hat-trick, sealing a dominant performance for Madrid. Man City managed to pull one back through Nico Gonzalez, but it was not enough to overturn the deficit, as Madrid advanced to the last 16 with a 6-3 aggregate win.
Reacting to the defeat in his post-match interview with TNT Sports, Guardiola acknowledged that his team struggled after conceding early.
“After we conceded the goal in the first action, we didn’t defend well, and it became more and more difficult,” Guardiola said.
“We have to accept it. The better team won, so congratulations to Real Madrid. Now, we focus on the Premier League.
“They are a fantastic team, and they deserve to go through. This is the first year we didn’t have a good Champions League campaign. We have to accept it and fight to be back next season.
“Of course, Real Madrid are contenders to win the Champions League now, but there are other strong teams in the competition as well.”
With City’s European campaign now over, Guardiola’s focus shifts to defending their Premier League title. Meanwhile, Real Madrid remains in contention for another Champions League triumph.
