Akpabio May Step Down As Option B Strategy Against Natasha – Report
By Gideon Ayeni

Senate President Godswill Akpabio is reportedly set to step down temporarily next week as the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions moves to clear him of allegations of sexual harassment.
According to Sahara Reporters, once Akpabio is exonerated after stepping down, the committee is expected to recommend the indefinite suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, barring her from the Senate until the end of her tenure in 2027.
Both lawmakers are scheduled to appear before the committee, which is chaired by Senator Neda Imasuen. Akpoti-Uduaghan had accused Akpabio of making inappropriate advances toward her during a visit to his residence in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, in December 2023—allegedly in the presence of her husband. She also escalated the matter to the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The committee’s investigation is reportedly designed to clear Akpabio of any wrongdoing while finalizing Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension. This move comes despite her legal action against the Senate for allegedly violating a court order that temporarily halted disciplinary proceedings against her.
The Senate had previously sealed her office following her suspension, prompting Akpoti-Uduaghan to file a contempt of court case. However, the Senate appears determined to proceed with the indefinite suspension in the coming days, setting the stage for further legal and political tensions.
