Expectedly, Atiku Backs Corps Member Who Called Tinubu ‘Terrible President’
By Benjamin Abioye

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has voiced his support for Ushie Uguamaye, also known as Raye, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who alleged that she received threats after criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration in a viral video.
In a statement shared on social media, Atiku described Raye as a symbol of young Nigerian women advocating for political engagement and accountability. “Raye embodies the spirit of a new generation of women who champion the ideals of popular participation and unwavering advocacy in the political sphere,” he stated.
He praised her courage, adding, “I deeply admire her boldness and wisdom—her fearless resolve to speak truth to power, undeterred by the weight of opposition.”
Atiku compared Raye to historical female activists such as Gambo Sawaba, Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti, and Margaret Ekpo, who played crucial roles in Nigeria’s fight for democracy and social justice. He called on Nigerians to support her rather than criticize her for expressing her views.
“Rather than being met with hostility, Raye deserves encouragement and support. She is a shining emblem of the Nigerian youth—a testament to the long-held promise that the leaders of tomorrow are already among us, ready to shape a better future,” Atiku added.
Raye, who is currently serving in Lagos, gained attention after a TikTok video in which she condemned the government’s economic policies went viral. In the video posted on her TikTok handle, #talktoraye, she described Tinubu as a “terrible leader” and expressed frustration over Nigeria’s economic decline, arguing that hard work no longer guarantees financial stability.
She also questioned whether the government is genuinely working to ease citizens’ struggles. The video sparked widespread debate online.
After the video circulated, Raye claimed she received threats from NYSC officials, who allegedly pressured her to delete the post.
