Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has climbed higher on the country’s all-time goal-scoring list after netting twice in the first half of Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Rwanda on Friday.
Osimhen, who plays for Galatasaray, opened the scoring by perfectly finishing a well-placed free kick from Ademola Lookman at the far post. Shortly before halftime, he added another goal, further strengthening Nigeria’s lead in the game.
With these two goals, Osimhen has now surpassed the legendary Segun Odegbami on Nigeria’s all-time scorers list.
Osimhen has moved up to second place with 25 international goals, setting his sights on the late Rashidi Yekini’s long-standing record of 37 goals.
GWG.ng reports that the two goals by Osimhen helped Nigeria to defeat Rwanda and keep up hope for qualification for the World Cup in 2026 with the country now moving to the fourth position below Rwanda who drop from the top position to the third position.
South Africa which beat Lesotho have now climbed to the top position in the group that also has Zimbabwe.
