Video: Crying Buisnesswoman Gets ₦5m Lift From Governor
By Benjamin Abioye

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has changed the life of a young businesswoman who approached him with tears in her eyes, seeking help for her small business.
During a public event, the woman, overwhelmed with emotions, knelt before Governor Umo Enough to, pleading for assistance to expand her dried food production business.
As she explained her struggles, the woman told Governor Umo Eno that she produces cassava, banana, and other dried grains from home due to a lack of funds to secure a proper shop. In response, Governor Eno requested samples of her products and reviewed her credentials before asking how much she needed to grow her business. She mentioned 2 million naira.
A video circulating on social media captured the moment the governor directed the Commissioner for Trade to assess her needs and immediately provide the 2 million naira, along with business equipment worth an additional 3 million naira. Overcome with gratitude, the woman screamed the governor’s name in appreciation.
The gesture has sparked mixed reactions online. While some praised Governor Umo Eno’s generosity, others criticized the system that forces citizens like the woman to beg for support instead of benefiting from structured government programs.
Oluwatomisin (@Tosin_Iseoluwa) commented, “This is nice. But do you know that you don’t have to come this low to seek what belongs to you? If they have been doing the right thing for us as Nigerians, she wouldn’t need to come this low to get help. I will not clap for the governor because that’s one of his duties.”
Similarly, NOBLE (@officialnoble_1) questioned, “Should all Nigerians or all Akwa Ibomites go through this lane before their voice or cry for help will be heard? Wasn’t government supposed to be granting business grants for start-up businesses or small-scale businesses of this nature? Please, our government has to do more.”
Others, like Oiza (@UncleForbes_), were happy for the woman but pointed out that 3 million naira worth of equipment might not be enough to set up the business properly. “She came prepared, but not fully prepared. She has no idea of the finances required to establish her business to a level of commercial success. 3m will not set that business up well and good, but not a bad start at least. Congratulations to her.”
Some reactions also expressed skepticism about whether the funds would actually reach the woman. Black Hammer (@okoroluckyfrid1) warned, “Dear @PastorUmoEno, what u owe d internet is a follow-up if this money was given by d commissioner of trade. I am not judging, but am speaking from experience; in the past, a governor told his aide to give me 5 million; till today, money I no see. These aides are more wicked than evil.”
The debate continues as many Nigerians reflect on the deeper issues of governance, accessibility to financial support, and the role of public officials in empowering citizens.
