Video: Outrage As Politician Shares ₦1,000 Notes To Bikers
By Benjamin Abioye

A politician in Northern Nigeria has stirred controversy after distributing ₦1,000 notes to men lined up on motorcycles while his supporters cheered.
The act, presented as an empowerment initiative, has sparked widespread debate, with many Nigerians taking to social media to criticize and mock the gesture.
A video of the event has since gone viral, drawing comparisons to the recent “tyre empowerment” in Kogi State, where another politician handed out tyres as support for constituents.
Many Nigerians see these acts as a mockery of the people’s struggles rather than genuine help. @Adedeyforyou1 ridiculed such programs, calling them “Politicians and fooling empowerment allegedly.”
Reactions have flooded social media, with many expressing anger and disappointment. @FobeCyril sarcastically wrote, “Check out the media next, you will realize it was billions of naira spent on this mighty empowerment. No longer respect for billion.” @PRINCEOKOLI10 lamented, “Poverty in the land . Suffering and smiling
. We can’t fight for our RIGHT.”
Others pointed out the timing of such handouts. @Grace_Emmah_ stated, “Election is around the corner, so expect nothing less.” Similarly, @AkinbusolaAdel1 mocked the move, calling it “Baba empowerment aye.” @mosco_01 outrightly rejected the act, saying, “God forbid.”
Some reactions took an even harsher tone. @RalphJosh1 accused politicians of exploiting people’s suffering, stating, “They weaponize poverty, especially in the North… Useless people.” @Quickfitness01 referenced previous political handouts, adding, “When they complained of cooked rice the other day, you’d assume they’re getting wise. But no, they keep getting stupid.” @ugehson also blamed the electorate, writing, “Aboki will always put us in problem in this country.”
However, a few people defended the politician’s actions. @Palermo_seun argued, “Anything you give to others without expecting anything in return comes from the depths of your heart. Giving a thousand naira freely is never a bad thing.” Similarly, @FaruqOlaifa01 stated, “At least he’s doing something. Some people have way more but will never help.”
Despite these mixed reactions, one thing is clear: the so-called “empowerment” programs by Nigerian politicians continue to generate debate. As election season draws nearer, the question remains—are these handouts genuine help for the people, or are they mere political strategies to maintain control over struggling citizens?
