Just a day before the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Anambra State, one of its leading aspirants, Dr. Paul Chukwuma, has announced his decision to resign from the party.

Paul Chukwuma, who was among the seven aspirants that purchased the party’s N40 million nomination forms and underwent screening, made his decision to resign public in a letter dated April 3, 2025. The letter was addressed to the APC Ward Chairman in Umueri Ward 2, Anambra East Local Government Area.

In the letter titled “Resignation of Party Membership,” Chukwuma stated that his exit from the APC was part of a broader vision to build an inclusive political platform in Anambra that aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation as a card-carrying member of the All Progressives Congress,” he wrote. “My decision is rooted in my desire to connect Anambra State to national politics by building a broader and all-inclusive political platform.”

Chukwuma thanked the APC leadership for their support throughout his political journey within the party and assured that his commitment to the progress and development of Anambra State remains unwavering.

His resignation comes amid growing political tension as the APC prepares to conduct its governorship primary on April 5. The remaining aspirants in the race include Chukwuma Umeoji, Obiora Okonkwo, Nicholas Ukachukwu, Johnbosco Onunkwo, Valentine Ozigbo, and Edozie Madu.

Paul Chukwuma’s unexpected decision to resign has sparked fresh speculation about realignments and possible coalition-building ahead of the November 2025 governorship election in the state.
