Former Senate Chief Whip, Senator Rowland Owie, is grieving the death of his wife, Lady Helen Owie, who passed away in Abuja at the age of 71 after a brief illness.

In a heartfelt tribute, Owie celebrated the more than five decades of marriage with his late wife, describing Lady Helen as the pillar of their home and the unifying force in their family. He praised her as a woman of deep faith, grace, and unwavering love who treated everyone—especially his late mother and extended relatives—with kindness and respect.

“She was my peace, my pillar, and my partner in all things,” Senator Owie wrote, describing his late wife as God-fearing, humble, and resourceful. He added that her quiet strength and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary were the spiritual bedrock of their family life.

Known for her deep Catholic faith, Lady Helen lived a life of service, humility, and compassion, touching the lives of many with her warmth and generosity. She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, and numerous others whose lives she impacted.

The Owie family has asked for prayers for the peaceful repose of her soul and the continued intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

Meanwhile, former Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, has extended his condolences to Senator Owie and his family.

In a condolence letter dated April 9, 2025, Agba described Lady Helen as a God-fearing and devoted woman whose legacy of humility and service will be remembered. He commended Senator Owie’s tribute as a touching reflection of the depth of her character.

“No one could have captured her virtues more accurately,” Agba noted, while praying for strength and comfort for the grieving family during this difficult time.
