By Benjamin Abioye

Toke Makinwa has openly stated that she would be willing to try marriage again, even as the second, third, or fifth wife.
Media personality Toke Makinwa has once again caused a stir with her bold comments about marriage.
On an episode of her podcast ‘Toke Moments’, shared on Instagram, Toke expressed that she would have no problem becoming someone’s second, third, fourth, or even fifth wife. She made the statement in a playful tone, saying, “At this point in my life, if I have the opportunity to marry again, as a second, third, fourth, or even fifth wife, I’ll take it.”
Toke’s comment follows her reflections on her past marriage to Maje Ayida, which ended in 2017 after accusations of infidelity. Earlier in her podcast, she opened up about how that relationship left her emotionally hurt and often brought her to tears.
Now 40 years old, Toke has embraced her current single status and challenged societal expectations about marriage and motherhood. “I am 40, I am single, and I am childless. I said it, and I didn’t die,” she declared. Toke Makinwa admitted that she once felt ashamed about not following the traditional timeline for marriage and children, but now she feels liberated. “Honestly, if I had gotten married again, I would have been divorced again. The lessons don’t stop,” she added.
Her statement, however, has sparked mixed reactions on social media. Some of her followers took to Twitter with humorous and sometimes critical responses. Irene (@Irenevens) joked, “I for say make she write application letter go give PA Ned, but unfortunately for her, na only virgin he dey marry .” Job (@Jet8Lucky) remarked, “SHE HAS TO PUT THIS OUT HERE, BEFORE SHE BECOMES SECOND WIFE TO A BILLIONAIRE. TO AVOID CRITICISM,” suggesting that Toke might be preparing for a potential second wife role in a wealthy family. Others, like Thompson Ochuko (@OchukoThompson), hinted at the possibility of Toke setting the stage for something bigger, saying, “This is leading somewhere… She may just be watering the ground.”
Criticism was also abundant, with comments questioning her motivations. Oladele (@oladele92abiola) responded cynically, “Why wouldn’t she mind becoming a 2-5th wife after testing all mic with bad character.” Some Twitter users even mocked the idea, with Vintage Emerald (@25th_10king) saying, “Werey Dey use style call for Ned attention. Rubbish ,” referring to Toke’s potential interest in Nigerian billionaire Ned Nwoko, known for his polygamous marriages.
Others, like small challenge (@amGabrielsuplex), offered a more lighthearted take, saying, “To marry no hard but to see husband na the wahala,” while slxmjosh (@slxmmejosh) called her “Old cargo at the final bus stop,” making fun of her age and marital prospects. Some users, like DJKENT SOUNDZ (@djkentsounds), hinted that she might already be dating a man with multiple wives, commenting, “She’s currently dating a man with 2 or 3 wives.”
On the other hand, a few users, like LexizLexuzDanielz (@LexizLexuz), teased her for seeking wealth through marriage, saying, “U will golddig even as a 50th wife. .”
Toke’s comments have clearly struck a nerve, with many speculating about her future intentions. User @uchefeatuyota said, “Lol we all know what this is, watch this space it’s coming,” while @Ayokay13 asked, “What changed?” Other reactions ranged from skeptical to supportive, with some like @InvincibleHP wishing her well, saying, “Good luck to her,” while others, like @Banqs_eg, criticized her, calling it “desperation.”
As Toke Makinwa continues to embrace her reality and challenge societal norms, it’s clear that her views on marriage will continue to stir conversation and reactions from her fans and critics alike.
