The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has confirmed that crude oil processing has resumed at the Port Harcourt Refinery in Rivers State.

Announcing the development on Tuesday, Femi Soneye, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, revealed that the refinery is operating at 60% capacity, with a daily output of 60,000 barrels of crude oil.

This announcement comes amidst Nigeria’s continued reliance on the Dangote Refinery—the only fully functioning refinery in the country. The move to reactivate the Port Harcourt Refinery is part of efforts to reduce the importation of refined petroleum products and bolster domestic production.

NNPCL is yet to provide further details on how the facility’s output will contribute to the country’s energy needs or plans for scaling up capacity in the future.
