NYSC Stops Reposting Of 1,000 Corps Members
Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim has justified the scheme’s decision to reject the application by about 1,000 corps members nationwide to redeploy from the states they were deployed to.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja Wednesday on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the 2020 inspectors’ development programme of the NYSC, he said most corps members tried to manipulate the staff of the scheme to get their relocation done, against the ethics of the scheme.
Brigadier-General Shuaibu said relocation was free and allowed even though it must be on health, marital or insecurity grounds.
According to the NYSC director-general, over 1,000 corps members tried to deceive the staff to get reposting to their favoured locations, but he said that when this was discovered to be fraudulent, they were canceled and withdrawn.
The NYSC director-general said the workshop was aimed at boosting the capacity of the inspectors and field officers to be effective in their duties.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the NYSC scheme had lately been faced with controversy especially over the spate of insecurity in the country with graduates often resisting deployments to Northern states gripped with insurgency.
Besides an attempt to abolish the scheme on the claim that it had derailed from its objective of national integration had surfaced in the National Assembly with some lawmakers championing a bill to scrap the NYSC.
