Uyo Senate Seat: Obong, Ex-NUT Scribe Tasks PDP To Be Fair On Zoning
Erstwhile General Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP aspirant for the Uyo Senatorial District, Obong Ikpe Obong has tasked the party to be firm on its respect for the principle of zoning.
Obong spoke against the background of the agitation for representation between the three federal constituencies in the Senatorial district.
Speaking at a press conf in Uyo on Wednesday, he said:
“The incumbent Senator will soon finish the eight years allocated to Itu/Ibiono after Ita Enang had done their first four years. So the consensus is that the next Senator should come from Uyo Federal Constituency in the interest of fairness and progress of the party.
“Additionally, Uyo Federal Constituency has 42 wards while Etinan and Itu/Ibiono have 31 and 21 respectively. So you can see we are even in the majority and own the seat of power but we have represented the senatorial district less’’.
“Aside from that there are issues that only people like us can help the country to solve and these are issues of security, labour and many others in addition to the need for revitalization of moribund industries in the state’’, he said
