Tinubu: His Difficult Options On Amotekun

The 24-hour ultimatum given the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make public his stance on the establishment of the regional security outfit, Amotekun expires Saturday with the political icon not expected to respond to the group.

The ultimatum was given by the Non-Governmental Organisation, Save Lagos Group which had in the past troubled the political hegemony as established by Tinubu over Lagos.

The ultimatum on Amotekun was as such not unusual coming from the group. If not, the ultimatum is another provocation by the group which has over the years looked for ways to embarrass the Lagos political icon.

Severally he has ignored the group. However, the group may have hit home with its latest offensive and it is doubtful if the Lagos leader even if he ignores the group would ignore the message.

Speaking on the issue on Saturday, a key political actor familiar with the operations of the Tinubu political machinery dismissed the Save Lagos Group dubbing it as provocative.

“How do they want him to react? He cannot turn himself against his people and he cannot turn against the Federal Government and you know that.

“They just want to embarrass the man, after all have all his people not been speaking on the issue. Fasanmi has spoken and that is Tinubu’s man.

“He is trying to diffuse the situation down and he is talking to the Federal Government on the issue. Tinubu will not respond to them,” the actor who spoke on the condition of anonymity told GWG.

As the source said, Tinubu will remain below the radar on the issue.

The reason is, however, not difficult to decipher. The Lagos political icon is believed to be nurturing his 2023 presidential bid and would not want to engage into a political conflict with the Federal Government at the moment.
