The Global Forum for Accountability and Transparency in Nigeria, GFATN has made a freedom of information request to the Inspector General of Police to confirm details of an alleged N475 million COVID-19 donation to the Nigeria Police Force from the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

The Non-Governmental Organisaiton made the request through its lawyers, Sunny Worenwu and Associates in a letter dated 17 July, 2020.

The NGO through its coordinator, Comrade Joseph Ambakederimo had deposed that in the course of its watch on the ongoing probe of the NDDC it had been made aware of claims that the commission donated N475 million to the police as COVID-19 palliatives.

Noting the allegation that some donations were purportedly made to some security agencies by the NDDC which turned out to be false, the group through the lawyers is asking the IGP to clear the air and provide details of the donation if it really happened.

The group wrote:
That the motive which led to writing this letter is based on the allegation raised by the Senate wherein the NDDC chairman was invited by the Senate to clear the air in how they sent money to the Nigerian Police force amounting to the sum total of N475,000,000 as palliative to covid 19 to enable them purchase Face mark and sanitizers.

(Date and time of receipt of the funds where necessary ).
