Update On Kaduna Primary School Kidnap: Govt Confirms Attack, Not Ready With Number Of Victims
The Kaduna State Government has confirmed the Monday morning attack by bandits on a primary school in Birnin Gwari and the kidnap of teachers and pupils of the school located in the northwest flanks of the state.
The Kaduna State Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan while confirming the attack said that a number of pupils and teachers from a primary school in Birnin Gwari were taken away by the bandits.
As at press time the number of those abducted could not be determined.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG had reported the bandit attack earlier in the morning.
Aruwan in confirming the attack in a statement obtained by GreenWhiteGreen GWG said:
“The Kaduna State Government is receiving security reports of kidnapping of some pupils and teachers in a primary school located in Rema, Birnin Gwari local government area.
“According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred at an LEA Primary School in the LGA.”
The commissioner said the security agencies were making efforts towards ascertaining details of what happened noting that the exact number of the victims could not be immediately confirmed.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG had reported that the bandits arrived the school with motorbikes and shepherded the pupils and teachers away into the forest. The primary school kidnap of teachers and pupils adds to the stress of the Kaduna State Government already stretched by security crises in the state.
The Birnin Gwari axis has long been reported as one of the strongholds of the bandits with a section of the forest taken over by the marauders who bear rule over the region.
The latest development follows the earlier abduction of 39 students of Federal School of Forestry Management in Kaduna. The bandits who took the students had demanded a N500 million ransom for the students but the Kaduna State Government has dismissed the demand.
