Details of the alleged adultery between the recently sacked Commissioner of  Agriculture and Water Resources in Nasarawa State, Prof. Alanana Otaki and the wife of one of his subordinates have been revealed.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Otaki was dragged to a Lafia Upper Area Court for allegedly snatching the wife of Dr Peter Aboki, the Deputy Provost of the state College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Lafia.

The professor, who before his appointment as commissioner in the Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration was a lecturer at the University of Abuja.

Prof. Otaki who was sacked alongside other commissioners, special advisers and senior special assistants on Monday by Governor Sule was dragged to court in Lafia, the state capital on Monday for allegedly snatching Mrs Felicia Aboki from her husband, Dr Aboki.

Dr Aboki, had through his Counsel, Barr Shikama Shyeltu applied for stay of any form of relationship between his wife, Mrs Aboki and Prof. Otaki, pending the determination of a substantive petition filed by his wife, seeking divorce of their 18-years-old marriage.

However, when the case came up, Presiding Judge, Mr Abubakar Lanze adjourned to September 15, 2021 for hearing. He said the adjournment was to allow the applicant study the counter affidavit filed by the respondents.

The embattled wife, Mrs Aboki, had earlier filed a case against her husband seeking dissolution of their 18-years-old marriage.

Counsel to Mrs Aboki who is the second respondent, Barr David Meshi while speaking to journalists in Lafia said his client was no longer interested in the 18-years-old marriage to the applicant which was why she decided to seek divorce.

Barr Meshi said Mrs Aboki  approached the court for a confirmation of a divorce between herself and her erstwhile husband, Mr Aboki. According to him, the marriage had ended extrajudicially, thus his client came to court to confirm the end of the marriage judicially.

He said it was in the process of awaiting the court action on the matter that his client was alleged to have been engaged in affairs with the first respondent, Prof. Otaki.

“Today we were supposed to hear some motions, two motions in particular but counsel to the respondent, that is the erstwhile husband applied for a date to put his house in order and come back ready for hearing of the motions.

“We are okay with the adjournment. It is right to seek for adjournment for the purpose of fair hearing because the processes were filed and he needed time to go through them and it is well with the law,” he said.

On his part, counsel to the applicant, Barr Shyeltu explained that his client got the counter affidavits few minutes to the commencement of the court sitting, hence the need for adjournment to give them time to study it.

“Today was supposed to be the hearing of the two motions filed by the respondent (Dr Peter Aboki) who filed two motions of notice to be heard by the honourable court but the respondent to the motions, that is  Prof. Otaki and Mrs Felicia Aboki only served us with their counter affidavits this morning and therefore, the hearing of the two motions can not proceed.

“We are by law supposed to be given time to respond to their own documents filed before the court. That is why the matter was adjourned so that Dr Aboki will respond to the counter affidavit by filing further affidavit to counter issues raised by these two respondents in their own various affidavits,” he said.

Barr Shyeltu explained that the first motion by his client is seeking the  court to restrain Prof. Otaki and Mrs Aboki from been seen together or for him to carry her in his car or even to visit her at her new apartment, pending the termination of the petition filed by Mrs Aboki against her husband.

He said his client did not file a petition that sought a dissolution of their 18-years-old marriage rather it was  his wife, Mrs Aboki who filed a petition for divorce of the marriage.

The counsel further explained that Dr Aboki along the line discovered that there was an ongoing relationship between his wife and Prof. Otaki that was not healthy for the sustenance of the marriage which is yet to be dissolved, thus, he filed a motion of notice for an injunction restraining the two of them from been seen together.

“Dr Aboki, in his plea said that if the marriage is dissolved, his wife is free to continue with the relationship but for now, he is still her husband and  has the right over her, pending the determination of the petition.

“So what the court did today is to give each of them a level playing ground so that each will table their positions before the court which will take steps and decide,” he said.

He said the court only served his client with the processes so the court decided to give them time to enable Dr Aboki respond to the three counter affidavits.

“Mrs Aboki filed her two counter affidavits and served her husband this morning, then Prof. Otaki equally filed his counter affidavit to the second motion and served Dr Aboki this morning. So this morning he was served with three counter affidavits so he can not respond today for the court to hear the motion,” he added.

Meanwhile, Counsel to the first respondent, Barr Joseph Agbo argued that his client, Prof. Alanana Otaki is not involved in the marriage crisis between Dr and Mrs Aboki and wondered why he would be joined as party in the suit.

“There are two motions in court, one is seeking for an injunction against my client, another is seeking to join my client as a petitioner in the case.

“We have already filed our processes on getting to the court, the respondent  is trying to join us as petitioner against him whom we are not even married to. Meanwhile, our papers were just served on him this morning. We filed the paper sometime last week and they could not serve until now. So, we took September 15 for continuation of hearing from the applicant,” he said.
