Tough Options For Keyamo, Ogboru In Delta APC As Omo-Agege Takes All
All Progressives Congress, APC chieftains in Delta State aligned to the duo of Great Ogboru and Festus Keyamo are weighing their options after the mainstay of the party inclined to Ovie Omo-Agege swept all 25 chairmanship positions in the weekend Local Government Area congresses of the party.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that ahead of the ward and Local Government Area congresses that there were wild reports of supporters of Keyamo and Ogboru allegedly seeking judicial interventions to stop the congresses.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG had also published a secret memo purportedly issued by Keyamo, the minister of State for Labour to party chieftains not to go ahead with the congresses on the claim that the Supreme Court judgment on the Ondo State governorship election was indicative of the fact that anything done by the Governor Mala Buni led national exco would be overruled by the courts.
In the end, Keyamo, Ogboru and other chieftains supportive of their faction kept away from the congresses giving the Omo-Agege tendency the bounce they needed to sweep all the positions on offer.
The Keyamo-Ogboru camp has meanwhile been largely quiet besides the court action initiated by some adherents of the group.
While Ogboru, the 2019 governorship candidate has in the past shifted political platforms, that option is not now believed to be in the consideration of the veteran politician popularly referred to as The Peoples General.
Keyamo’s visibility in the Buhari government is also a limitation against defection despite the insinuations of anti-party tendencies raised by the Omo-Agege mainstay of the party.
A chieftain of the party deeply embedded in the Omo-Agege camp, Nick Ovuakporie in a statement on Monday affirmed the invincibility of the camp of the Deputy President of the Senate after the Local Government Area congresses.
“The uncompromising and selfless leadership being provided by the Deputy President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has made the party healthy and poised towards taking over the reigns of power in Delta State as the march towards 2023 inches closer,” he wrote.
“Today, the party’s leadership has spoken in one accord and members are in a state of ecstasy owing to the renewed vigour with which the party has defiled all odds orchestrated by anti-party elements to conduct one of the party’s most democratic congresses in the annals of our political history,” his assertion, however, is mum on the outlook of the Keyamo-Ogboru camp which could be telling. Despite apparently being in the minority, the camp parades some of the most enduring political forces in Delta State.
Among them are Engr. Victor Ochei, Chief Cairo Ojougboh and a sizeable proportion of the outgoing state executive.
