Obiano Soludo rift

Suspicions of a rift between Anambra State Governor-elect, Prof Charles Soludo and the outgoing governor of the state, Chief Willie Obiano emerged on Thursday just as Soludo vowed to discard the appellation of His Excellency in his official designation.

The fears of a rift emerged after Governor Obiano and some of his trusted allies kept away at the inauguration of the Oby Ezekwesili headed transition committee constituted by the governor elect.

Online newspaper, News Express which reported the absence of Obiano quoted the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C.Don Adinuba as saying that he and the governor were not invited for the programme.

He added: “I am not a member of the committee, moreover I have serious businesses in my office.

“The governor is not there and I am not there. I am not bothered by not being there. I have more serious things to do in the ministry.”

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Soludo had constituted a top heavy transition committee with some of the country’s egg heads from within and outside the state to head the transition committee. It could not be confirmed if Soludo briefed Obiano about the transition committee and as such precipitated the alleged rift between the two men.

Meanwhile, the governor-elect has asked to be addressed as Prof Chukwuma Soludo or Mr Governor for those who may not be comfortable with calling him by his name.

While discarding the Excellency title, Soludo said: “I was called His Excellency a while ago, but may I plead that that Excellency tag should please wait for now.

“That is part of what we will discuss in this committee. You may just need to learn how to call me by my name, but if that isn’t good for you, then, may I request that you simply call me ‘Charlie Nwangbafor’. If that one is so difficult for you that you must be formal in addressing me, then you can address me as Mr Governor.
