Nigeria Tunisia Win

Nigeria were eliminated from the African Cup of Nations, AFCON tournament on Sunday after the Super Eagles lost 0-1 to Tunisia in the round of 16 qualifying stage. Nations Cup winner was sad on Sunday, saying that Nigeria did not do enough to win the game.

Though having a larger proportion of the possession and showing more character, the Nigeria side lost after the team were unable to respond to a 47 minute goal scored by Tunisia through Mskani in 47th minute following an assist from Drager.

The fate of the Nigerian team was compounded after Iwobi was given a red card barely five minutes after he came in as a replacement for Ihenacho.

It was a sort of irony for the two teams. Tunisia came into the round of 16 with seven of their players down with COVID-19. The Tunisian team was also without their coach who was also sidelined, having tested positive to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even more, Tunisia qualified for the round of 16 having lost two of their matches while Nigeria on the other hand came into the round of 16 with a 100% record having won all their matches in Group D.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Nigeria coach, Augustine Eguavoen who had predicted a tough match against Tunisia had been hailed after he had put a character and shape to the Nigerian team that had been lacking for much of the last five years when Gernot Rohr was in charge.

Speaking at the end of game, Jay Jay Okocha said that Nigeria did not do enough to win the game.

“You are as good as your next game,” Okocha said on Sunday as he expressed his disappointment.
