Senate President, Ahmad Lawan Enters 2023 Presidential Race
Senate President Ahmad Lawan on Monday declared his intention to contest the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Lawan made his formal declaration for the APC presidential ticket on Monday when he received the N100million expression of interest and nomination forms for the APC presidential ticket.
He received the forms from a group styled as the National Stability Project, led by Chief Sam Nkire.
The group including at least 15 senators purchased the forms earlier on Monday before presenting the forms to the Senate President.
Senator Ahmad Lawan said that he was entering the presidential race upon calls from several quarters.
“I want to commit myself to this call from all walks of life. This is not my journey. This is our journey because every hand must be on deck to take the country to the next level,” he said.
While noting that he was joining the race very late, he nevertheless pledged to abide by the rules of the game.
“I will play the games by the rule. I will not circumvent any rule. I will not go against our party rules.
“I place my trust fully in the Almighty God on this journey,” Lawan said as he immersed himself in the 2023 APC presidential race.
Senator Ahmad Lawan becomes the 24th aspirant to pick the APC’s expression of interest and nomination forms for the May 30 primary.
Nasir Gawuna, Deputy Governor of Kano, has been anointed as the preferred choice of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 governorship election beating the former commissioner of local government affairs, Murtala Sule Garo who is believed to be the personal choice of the wife of the governor, Hafsat Ganduje.
Daily Trust reports that Gawuna’s choice was made at a stakeholders’ meeting that was presided over by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
Garo it was gathered is to emerge as the running mate following the decision of the stakeholders who partook in the meeting over choosing a successor to the outgoing governor of the state, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje.
The party leaders it was reported had a difficult time but eventually through the intervention of party elders and statesmen from the state were able persuade him to step down for the deputy governor, Gawuna.
