President Muhammadu Buhari has finally reacted to the gruesome murder of Deborah Samuel, a year two female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto who was beaten and set ablaze over disagreements with her school mates on the use of a class WhatsApp forum for religious purposes.

His reaction came after some sections of the news media had reported his silence on the issue.

Reacting to the incident, President Buhari stated that the news of Deborah’s murder by fellow students was a matter of concern and demanded an impartial, extensive probe into all that happened before and during the incident.

The President confirmed that Muslims all over the world demand respect for the Holy Prophets, including Isah (Alaihissalaam, Jesus Christ) and Muhammad (SAW) but where transgressions occur, as reportedly in the case of Deborah, no one is permitted to take laws into their hands.

According to Buhari, “No person has the right to take the law in his or her own hands in this country. Violence has and never will solve any problem,”

President Buhari also directed the Ministries of Information and Culture, Police Affairs and of Communications and Digital Economy to work with GSM providers and tech companies to help contain the spread of false and inflammatory information through social media.

PMB also called for tampered comments by social media users and calm among the general population while investigation is ongoing.
