Storm Rages Over Tinubu’s Educational Certificates
With the heat on All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu increasing over his educational certificates, a group aligned to the former Lagos State governor has responded dismissing the assertions of perjury and lack of certificate as unfounded and settled issues.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Tinubu has been under focus as it emerged that he left provisions for his primary and secondary schools blank in his Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC forms.
Tinubu had in the past claimed to have attended Government College Ibadan, a claim that has been disputed by some of his critics.
In the latest development, international affairs expert, Femi Aribisala has accused the APC candidate of perjury in the matter of his certificates and schools attended.
Aribisala in a tweet alleged that the claim by Tinubu in the past that he attended Government College Ibadan (GCI) between 1965 and 1968 was false.
Aribisala who said he attended the school from 1962-1968 and that Tinubu was not there. He moved on to say that the new claim by Tinubu that he did not attend primary and secondary schools would mean that he has committed perjury.
Earlier, Chief Olabode George, a prominent Lagos critic of Tinubu’s had vowed that he would stake anything to defend the claim that Tinubu does not have certificates from GCI.
Meanwhile, in the first public reaction to the hullabaloo over the educational qualifications of the APC candidate, a group aligned to Tinubu, The Civil Advocate (TCA), charged his critics to “shut up” saying that their outcry was like flogging a dead horse.
The group said that issues about Tinubu’s educational certificates were already settled issues.
In a statement by its President, Comrade Waheed Abdullahi, and General Secretary, Comrade Samuel Chinedu, the TCA the group said:
“Here is a matter that had been contested up to the highest court in the land, which is the Supreme Court and Tinubu was given a clean bill of health as the apex court affirmed that the allegations that Tinubu forged his certificates lacked merit.
“We thus wonder why the man’s detractors find it convenient to run to town with their tar brush in a trite issue that has been thrown into the dustbin of history,” the TCA quipped.
The rights group said raising lame issues now is only meant to distract Tinubu and make him lose focus on his campaign strategies.
“We are particularly impressed by the reform agenda proposed by Tinubu for his Presidency; especially his vow to constitute State Police aside from Federal Police, with a view to stemming the tide of insecurity that has lain Nigeria prostrate.”
The TCA, as such, urged Nigerians to rise above “the politics of witch-hunt and financial greed, and instead task people aspiring for public offices on what they have to offer in terms of programmes”.
