The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s Peter Mbah has won the Enugu State governorship election beating the closest contender, Labour Party by about 3,000 votes

The announcement of the result followed the resumption of collation of the LGA results following the controversies that trailed the returns of the elections in some of the LGAs.

GWG.ng reports that the returning officer who declared the result declared that the PDP polled 160,895 to the 157,552 polled by Chijoke Edeoga of Labour Party.

Former minister of information, Frank Nweke jnr who flew the banner of APGA was third with 17,983 votes.

Mbah, the PDP candidate had campaigned on the wave of the momentum inspired by Peter Obi, saying that Mbah was in the mould of Peter Obi saying that voting the PDP would amount to pushing towards two Peters in charge of the country in Abuja and another in Enugu State.

Mbah who is the chairman of Pinacle Petroleum, one of the country’s largest downstream operators has vowed to enthrone probity and a sense of business in the affairs of the government in the state.

He was backed by several political chiefs in the state including former governors Chief Jim Nwobodo, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani and the incumbent.

GWG.ng reports that the win by the PDP of the governorship in Enugu will be seen as a reversal of fortunes following the landslide win of the Labour Party during the Presidential and National Assembly elections with Senator Chimaroke Nnamani and Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi among those that succumbed to the Labour tsunami in the state.
