The immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, was on Friday morning under pressure as old videos of him vowing not to be a minister or of moving to the All Progressives Congress, APC flooded the social media.

GWG.ng reports that Wike was named in President Bola Tinubu’s 28-man ministerial list submitted to the Senate on Thursday.

The nomination comes amidst speculations about Wike’s stance on accepting a ministerial appointment and his recent affiliations with President Tinubu.

The nomination raised eyebrows within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and has triggered a storm of controversies, albeit silent pressure on him to abide on his principles as an old video of Wike vowing not to be a minister, surfaced on social media platforms.

The video captures Wike’s words during the commissioning of the VIP Lounge at the Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa in August 2022, where he categorically stated, “Only one person can be a minister from a state, I will not be a Minister. I will not. I am not a liability, Rivers State is an asset.”

Wike’s inclusion in the ministerial list submitted to the House of Assembly by President Tinubu on Thursday has caused confusion and raised questions about Wike’s true intentions. Despite the circulating video, the former Governor is yet to make any official statement regarding his nomination.

Even more, another video where Wike denounced the APC as a party plagued with stage 4 cancer also trended. The implication of the former Rivers governor working for a party he claimed to have stage 4 cancer as opposed to the PDP which he claimed at that time had malaria.

President Tinubu’s decision to nominate Wike, despite his previous statements, adds a layer of intrigue to the situation, as it challenges the assumptions made about Wike’s intentions and loyalties.

GWG.ng gathered some of the reactions on twitter:

As the political drama unfolds, PDP members and political observers are closely watching to see how Wike will respond to the nomination. If he accepts the ministerial position, it could potentially strain his relationship with the PDP, leading to internal conflicts and dissent.

On the other hand, if Wike declines the appointment, it would raise questions about his allegiance to President Tinubu and whether his previous support was merely a strategic political move.

For now, Nigerians and the political landscape eagerly await Wike’s reaction to the pressure on him on and how he responds, which will likely shed light on the true motivations behind his acceptance or rejection of the nomination to be a minister in a party he once slammed as having stage four cancer.
