The State police commissioner, Idowu Owohunwa announced the launch of the new strategy to curb crime in the state during a visit to the Secretariat of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria.
Eighty-eight of the arrested criminals were arrested by policemen from Ikeja Division, while operatives of the Task Force also arrested another 31, during a raid on blackspots in the State.
CP Owohunwa also stated that arms and ammunition were recovered from the arrested suspects, while also adding that some of the criminals were arrested with hard drugs.
Owohunwa said; “A few hours after we launched Operation Flush, policemen from the command arrested 88 suspects and recovered hard drugs, pistol and other incriminating items.”
“Other divisions have also undertaken raids on black spots in the other parts of the state and they have made some arrests too.
“In Orile we have taken some decisions and we are going to have a permanent base in the area. We are taking the battle to the doorsteps of the criminals across the state, not just Orile alone.
“I have also seen the local government chairman of that area to help cover the potholes in the area for everyone’s benefits,” the Lagos police boss stated.
The police boss also said that efforts are on to upgrade the Gender Unit of the state police command to optimally tackle gender-based crimes.
According to the police boss, the new gender unit of the state police command, when completed, will not only be a place, where incidents of gender-based violence are just reported and investigated.
It will also include a temporary apartment for victims and survivors of gender-based violence, who may be afraid of returning home, after reporting to the police.
The police boss also stated that the new Gender Unit of the command will also contain: legal unit and physio-socio support unit.
“I am doing this so that the confidence in the police to handle such cases will be enhanced People will have more confidence to come out and complain.”
