The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Edo State was at the weekend being drawn into a new crisis following the reported resignation of a prominent party organiser and youth leader in the Esan North East Local Government Area, Simon Peter Odiata.

GWG.ng reports that Odiata was the youth leader and a prominent party organiser in the area.

However, the party has been enmeshed in crisis following the alleged move to draft the prominent Lagos based businessman, Asue Ighodalo into the governorship contest.

Odiata who is from the same local government area with Ighodalo resigned from the party about the same time that news emerged that the Lagos-based corporate guru had also resigned his position as chairman of Nigerian Breweries in preparation for his governorship bid in Edo State.

Odiata in his resignation letter addressed to the ward 10 chairman of Esan North East of the party, said:

Dear ward chairman,

LETTER OF RESIGNATION FROM PEOPLE DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP)

I am writing to convey my resignation of membership from the People’s Democratic Party( PDP)  and my position as Youth leader of the party with effect from the date of this letter.

It has been a great honour to contribute towards the development of grassroots politics in the ward, however, the recent internal wrangling within the party has irresistibly forced me to write this letter.Further to the above, it is worthy of mention that the recent development in the party conflicts with my core principles and values as a person.

Please accept the assurance of my regards.

Yours  faithfully,

Simon Peter Odiata.

GWG.ng reports that the resignation of the youth leader is being fanned by PDP activists in Edo State as another indication of a crisis following the alleged discord on the governorship contest.
