Ondo State’s new governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has pledged to see through the completion of projects initiated by the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. This commitment was made immediately after Governor Aiyedatiwa took the oath of office, administered by Chief Judge Odusola Olusegun in Akure.

Expressing the need to acknowledge Akeredolu’s accomplishments, Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted the significant projects undertaken during his predecessor’s tenure, some successfully concluded and others still in progress. He recognized the monumental impact of Akeredolu’s leadership and emphasized the administration’s dedication to advancing the welfare of the people, prioritizing their needs in decision-making processes.

Governor Aiyedatiwa spoke of the heavy emotional weight he carried, accepting the responsibility to lead the state following Akeredolu’s untimely death. He mourned the loss, describing it as a devastating shock and a colossal setback for both the state and Nigeria.

Sharing a longstanding relationship with Akeredolu, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized their enduring connection, unaffected even by the outcome of the 2012 governorship election. He praised Akeredolu’s courage and vision, citing his unwavering commitment to truth, exemplified by his steadfast support for Amotekun, a security initiative that significantly enhanced safety in Ondo State and the Southwest region.

Governor Aiyedatiwa recognized Akeredolu’s impactful legacies in various sectors, including health, infrastructure, and industrial development. He acknowledged the difficulty of surpassing Akeredolu’s contributions, describing the recent events as a watershed moment in the state’s history. The new administration feels a collective responsibility to uphold and sustain Akeredolu’s legacy of good governance, ensuring continuity in the pursuit of progress for the people of Ondo State.
