Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship aspirant in Edo State, Barrister Anselm Ojezua has ridiculed the recent ward congresses reported to have held last weekend as a mockery of the party’s regulations and processes saying that the result sheets in all 102 wards were signed by only two officers.

Ojezua who spoke in an interview in Abuja said that nine of the ten aspirants for the PDP governorship ticket in Edo State were excluded from the exercise and only saw the result sheets when they arrived Abuja to appeal against the process.

Ojezua said that that was when they saw that the result sheets for the Edo PDP congress was supposedly conducted simultaneously in 192 wards were signed by the chairman of the ward congress committee, Governor Peter Mbah and the secretary, Mr Pascal Adigwe.

He said:

“What I find more disturbing is that the chairman came in, midway into the exercise and he went to two locations…

“In fact, it was when he came he made a call to the Deputy Governor who is one of the aspirants, informing him that he has just arrived informing that he would love to meet with the aspirants but that he was waiting for his counterpart and that as soon as he arrives that he would inform us.

“We waited and the next day at about 4.00 pm or thereabout we saw him on television saying that he has been to two locations, that the process is free and fair. I was like, what’s going on? It was at that point that we called the press and said that we were not party to the process and that we were excluded. In any contest that is a ground for nullification.

“What is even worse is that the man who was supposed to lead us to conduct the process was now acting as an observer in going to inspect and expressing his satisfaction rather than for him to conduct and for some observers to make their observation known. I have never seen this kind of thing in my life,” he said.

Continuing, he said:

“It was when we came to lodge our joint appeal that we for the first time saw the result sheets and discovered that two persons conducted the election in 192 wards simultaneously! Two persons as against the list of officials that the National Working Committee has sent. All the result sheets were not signed by the electoral officers. Not one of them. All of them were signed by Peter Mbah and Pascal Adigwe.”

Concluding, he said:

“The entire process was fraught with irregularities and even illegalities. Though the court says affairs of political parties are internal affairs of the parties, but it does not allow the parties to push illegalities which is what is happening now,” Ojezua said of the controversy trailing the PDP congress in Edo State.
