Man Attacks Lover With Machete Over Valentine’s Day Disappointment
The Cross River State Police Command has apprehended a 30-year-old man named Amber Ubung for allegedly assaulting his lover with a machete.
The incident occurred in Okuni community, Ikom Local Government Area, where Ubung reportedly attacked Blessing Onawu, 25, after she failed to keep her promise of spending Valentine’s Day with him.
According to the state Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Grimah, Ubung became enraged when Onawu did not show up at his place despite receiving N7,000 from him for her hair appointment. In a fit of anger, Ubung armed himself with a machete and launched a violent attack on Onawu, inflicting multiple machete wounds on her body with the intention of causing serious harm.
When Onawu’s mother intervened to rescue her daughter, she too was injured by Ubung using the same machete. Law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the scene and arrested Ubung, who was found in possession of the weapon.
Both the victim and her mother are currently receiving medical treatment in separate hospitals, while Ubung has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. The police assured the public that Ubung would be charged to court once the investigation is concluded.
CP Grimah emphasized the importance of community cooperation in combating crime, urging citizens to share information with the police. He reiterated the commitment of the police command to maintaining peace and order in Cross River State.
The incident has garnered attention on social media, with Facebook user Gabriel Odey sharing the story on his newsfeed.
