Four Ways To Conserve Fuel While Driving

Fuel economy is one of the major factors people must consider before buying a car and it is especially so in Nigeria to conserve fuel in Nigeria with a liter of fuel selling between N600 to N700.

Beyond that here are tips that would help you conserve fuel while driving your car around in Nigeria.

Avoid leaking exhaust

It may sound less important, but the truth is when a vehicle’s exhaust is leaking, it burns more fuel. Thus, in addition to the unpleasant noise oozing out of the exhaust, it drains your fuel as the engine works with so much effort. 

Regulate your usage of air-conditioning:

There is always an urge to use the air-conditioner especially when the weather is hot because it is meant for that purpose.  But if the weather is okay and you want to save fuel, don’t use it. However, there  are arguments that some cars don’t consume extra fuel when the air-conditioner is on, but it is advisable to turn your car air-conditioner off, if you observe it consumes more fuel.

Switch off your engine in traffic jam

 It is for a reason that fuel consumption is lower on the highway than in the city, and the reason is that every time you stop and start in traffic your car needs first gear and a huge amount of fuel to get moving again.  

But when you are in slow-moving traffic, try to put off your engine when it’s taking so long.

Remove the roof rack

Removing the roof rack is a good way to conserve fuel.  According to a study, even if the roof rack is empty, it increases drag and makes the car consume more fuel.

So you can remove them when you are not carrying any load.  Also ensure that your tyres have adequate pressure when driving.
