A dramatic scene unfolded in a video circulating on social media, where a Nigerian woman boldly resisted a male police officer’s attempt to search her. The footage has sparked a heated debate, with many netizens praising the woman’s assertiveness with others supporting the police officer’s actions.

In the video, the woman was seen vehemently refusing the officer’s request to search her phone and person, citing her right to privacy and gender-specific search protocols. She questioned the officer’s authority, asking why he, as a male officer, was attempting to search her without a female officer present.

Furthermore, she challenged the officer’s decision to remove her car’s plate number, pointing out that he was not a LASMA or Road Safety officer, and therefore lacked the jurisdiction to do so.

Watch the video below;

Although, as at the time of compiling this story, gwg.ng could not ascertain the reason behind the policeman’s attempt to search the woman’s phone but the video has sparked a lively discussion in the comment section, with some commending the woman for standing up for her rights and others defending the police officer’s actions as part of his duty.

Read some netizens reactions below;

@Dnpassion: Na madness fit confront madness. I like her parol.

@teejayvirus: 1. I don’t think the IG holds any rank in the Nigerian police force asides starched uniform and A/C equipped office because I don’t know why the IG will keep forbidding his men to stop searching people’s phones almost every 6 months but they don’t care.

  1. They are always very unprofessional. If you want to search her, invite a female officer to do so. These policemen act like they are insane.
  2. They are only active when it comes to unarmed citizens. Let there be just gunshots from a nearby robbery and he will pull his uniform. Cowards.

Nothing is still going to change my mind regarding celebrating with beer and peppersoup when an evil policeman dies.

@blackjoe: Just give me one good reason why a police officer would have the guts to touch a lady’s phone trying to assault her twice and then channel it the other way round saying the lady beat him up
That’s unprofessional from NPF.

@three16: That lady should get a smart female lawyer to defend her cos the prosecutor will find a way to want to pin police harassment on her.

@realnosky: She clearly assaulted a police officer.

@deehayjet: The woman should have calm and cooperate to let the police do his job. Very simple.

@melvingada: She was standing on her right.

  1. What right does he have to search her phone?
  2. What’s his warrant for stopping her?
  3. His ethics was wrong. Let’s not support the NPF doing what’s wrong.

As the video continues to make waves online, it underline the power of assertiveness and the significance of knowing one’s rights in the face of authority.
