Kogi SDP Candidate Ajaka Attacked Following Supreme Court Ruling(Video)
Murtala Ajaka, the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State, was attacked on Friday by unidentified thugs shortly after the Supreme Court delivered its verdict on the state’s contentious governorship election.
Watch the video below on how Ajaka was attacked;
The incident took place at the premises of the Supreme Court in Abuja, following the court’s decision to uphold the election of Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the Governor of Kogi State. The assault has sparked concerns about the security of political figures in the aftermath of high-stakes judicial rulings.
Ajaka had earlier contested the results of the November 11, 2023, governorship election, which declared Ododo as the winner. He had sought the court’s intervention to nullify the election, citing various irregularities. However, in a unanimous ruling, the five-member panel of the apex court dismissed his petition, affirming Ododo’s victory and upholding the election results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The attack on Ajaka has added to the tensions surrounding the election outcome, raising questions about the security environment in which political contests are resolved in the country.
GWG.ng reports that neither the police nor the Supreme Court has responded after Ajaka was attacked.
