Ibraheem Abdulhameed Labaeka, an Islamic singer who served as the Special Assistant on Artiste Matters to the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has tendered his resignation, citing dissatisfaction with his inability to contribute meaningfully in his role.

In a resignation letter dated September 12, 2024, Labaeka expressed his gratitude to the Governor for giving him the opportunity to serve in the position. However, he noted that after serving for a period of one year and seven months, he had not been able to achieve the goals he had hoped for when he accepted the appointment.

Labaeka explained that despite his enthusiasm upon receiving the appointment on January 6, 2023, he had not been given a specific schedule of duties or responsibilities. This lack of direction, he said, hindered his ability to perform effectively in his role.

“Aside from the fact that I don’t have a specific schedule of duty, circumstances have not availed me the opportunity to perform my responsibilities maximally,” the letter read.

The Islamic singer highlighted his discomfort with continuing to receive a salary for a role in which he felt he was doing nothing. In the letter, Labaeka, a devout Muslim, noted that receiving a salary for unfulfilled duties was against his beliefs and personal values. Consequently, he requested that his salary be immediately stopped.

“I cannot continue to break that trust by taking a salary for doing nothing. As an Islamic cleric, it is against my beliefs, and I haven’t been at peace with myself,” Labaeka stated.

In conclusion, Labaeka expressed his appreciation for the confidence the Governor had placed in him and expressed hope that he would one day be able to fully utilize his talents for the development of the state.

The resignation has drawn attention due to Labaeka’s open and honest reflection on the lack of productivity in his role, sparking discussions about transparency and accountability in public service appointments.
