Outrage As Dangote Sells Petrol To NNPC At N898 Per Litre

The much-anticipated first fuel supply from the Dangote Refinery, which kicked off today, September 15, has ignited a wave of outrage across Nigeria.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) confirmed that it purchased the fuel at an unexpected price of N898 per litre, causing widespread backlash on social media.

Many Nigerians had pinned their hopes on the launch of the Dangote Refinery, expecting it to bring down skyrocketing fuel prices. However, the announcement of the N898 price per litre—higher than the current market rate—has left citizens disillusioned and questioning the benefits of having a local refinery.

Social media platforms have been flooded with angry reactions, with many criticizing both the government and the refinery for failing to live up to expectations.

One frustrated user expressed, “What’s the essence of this refinery if fuel prices are still this high? I was expecting N100 per litre or, at the very least, some form of relief. This is disappointing!”

Another user directly called out the government, saying, “Patiently waiting for Mr. President’s explanation! If this is what we’re getting, then what’s the point of having a refinery in Nigeria?”
