Tito Jackson, Michael Jackson’s brother and a founding member of The Jackson 5, has passed away at the age of 70. Born Toriano Adaryll Jackson on October 15, 1953, Tito was the third of the nine Jackson siblings.

His death was officially announced on September 15, 2024.

Preliminary reports indicate that Tito suffered a heart attack while traveling from New Mexico to Oklahoma.

In a statement, his sons—Taryll, Taj, and TJ Jackson—shared their deep sadness, calling themselves “shocked, saddened, and heartbroken” by the loss. They described their father as a remarkable and compassionate man.

“It’s with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved father, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson, is no longer with us. We are shocked, saddened, and heartbroken. Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being. Some of you may know him as Tito Jackson from The Legendary Jackson 5, some as ‘Coach Tito,’ or some as ‘Poppa T.’ Nevertheless, he will be missed tremendously. It will forever be ‘Tito Time’ for us,” his sons stated.

The Jackson 5 gained fame in the 1970s with hits like “ABC,” “I Want You Back,” and “I’ll Be There,” leading to their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Tito was crucial to the group’s success, initially playing guitar and later embarking on a solo career. His solo albums include “Tito Time” (2016) and “Under Your Spell” (2021), the latter featuring collaborations with George Benson and Stevie Wonder.

Throughout his career, Tito balanced his professional achievements with strong family ties. Despite the family’s tragedies, including Michael Jackson’s death in 2009, Tito remained a prominent figure in music. Just before his death, Tito was performing with his surviving brothers as part of The Jacksons, with upcoming performances scheduled for later in 2024. His last appearance was in Surrey, England.

Tito Jackson’s passing is a significant loss for both the Jackson family and the music industry.
