NECO Examiners Nationwide Protest

Abia State has emerged the top-performing state in the 2024 National Examination Council (NECO) result, with an impressive 83.40% of its students passing the exam.

This achievement in the 2024 NECO examination has sparked widespread celebration among the people of Abia, with many attributing the result success to the leadership of Governor Alex Otti and the Labour Party.

According to NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Wushishi, a total of 1,367,736 students sat for the exams nationwide. Of these, 827,480 candidates, representing 60.5%, passed the examination. Abia stood out as the best-performing state, while Kaduna and Kano ranked at the bottom with pass rates of 42% and 2%, respectively.

One school in Ekiti State was singled out for exceptional cheating and has been recommended for de-registration. Additionally, 40 schools across 17 states were flagged for mass cheating and have been summoned by the examination council for further discussion. Professor Wushishi also revealed that 21 supervisors across 12 states were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, extortion, and other forms of misconduct such as drunkenness.

From the result released, of the 1,367,736 candidates who took the 2024 NECO examination, 702,112 were male, and 665,624 were female, highlighting a fairly balanced participation.

Abia’s remarkable performance has been widely praised, with many residents crediting Governor Otti’s administration for prioritizing education and implementing policies that contributed to the state’s success in the national exams. This accomplishment serves as a positive reflection of the government’s commitment to academic excellence in the state.
