House Of Reps Threatens To Arrest Activist VeryDarkMan Amid Bobrisky-EFCC Bribery Probe
By Benjamin Abioye
The House of Representatives has issued a warning to social media influencer, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, threatening him with arrest.
This development occurred during a committee session on Monday investigating bribery allegations involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), and crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.
The chairman of the committee, while addressing the session, criticized VeryDarkMan for his refusal to speak due to the absence of both Bobrisky and the EFCC chairman. VeryDarkMan had appeared as summoned but stated that he wouldn’t say anything unless the other parties were present.
In response, the committee members reminded the activist that it was not up to him to dictate the proceedings of the investigation. They emphasized that since he had already appeared before the committee, it was his responsibility to provide his testimony.
“You are not expected to dictate to us whether Bobrisky comes here or not. It is left to us to decide. We can also compel him to come before us, and we can invoke our powers to arrest him,” the committee chairman stated.
He further warned that the committee could invoke its powers if VeryDarkMan refused to comply with the session. “The allegation you made has caused this committee to invite top government officials here. You, as the witness, must speak, otherwise, we will exercise our powers. You must speak to the allegations you made.”
The chairman advised VeryDarkMan’s lawyer to counsel his client accordingly, urging the activist to proceed with his testimony. “You are here already to testify; I will advise you to go ahead. Don’t let anyone deceive you. To the lawyer, please advise your client,” the chairman added.
The session concluded with the committee reiterating its authority to arrest any individual who fails to comply with their directives during the investigation.
