Manchester United new manager Amorim

Manchester United have officially appointed Ruben Amorim as their new manager.

In a statement released on Friday, the club confirmed that Amorim will stay with Sporting Lisbon until November 11, making his first match as United’s manager an away Premier League game against Ipswich Town.

Amorim has signed a contract lasting until June 2027, with an option to extend for an additional year.

To secure Amorim’s early release from his 30-day notice period, United paid Sporting an extra €1 million (£840,000) on top of his €10 million (£8.4 million) exit clause.

Amorim will succeed Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed on Monday, with Ruud van Nistelrooy acting as interim manager until Amorim’s arrival.

Manchester United’s next match is a home game against Chelsea on Sunday.
