Untold Details Of Negotiations Between Bolt Driver And Lawmaker (Video)
Social media critic VeryDarkMan, who had been vocal in supporting the Bolt driver’s case, revealed crucial behind-the-scenes details of the negotiations and the eventual retraction.
The Bolt driver who had accused Hon. Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives, of assault has now issued a public apology to the lawmaker—a move that has sparked outrage and confusion among Nigerians.
Social media critic VeryDarkMan, who had been vocal in supporting the Bolt driver’s case, revealed crucial behind-the-scenes details of the negotiations and the eventual retraction.
The controversy began when the Bolt driver posted a video accusing Ikwechegh of assaulting him after a confrontation. The video quickly went viral, drawing public support for the driver and widespread condemnation of the lawmaker.
In response, VeryDarkMan and human rights lawyer Barrister Deji Adeyanju took up the cause, vowing to get justice for the driver.
However, things took a dramatic turn when the Bolt driver unexpectedly reversed his stance and issued an apology to Hon. Ikwechegh. His message on social media expressed regret for any offense he may have caused, urging Nigerians to forgive him and work towards national unity. This public retraction raised numerous questions, especially about what prompted the driver to backtrack.
VeryDarkMan, who had been a key figure in seeking justice, expressed his shock and disappointment over the driver’s sudden change of heart. He revealed that the negotiations between the two parties had been tense and protracted, initially involving a demand for compensation of N20 million and a car. “We had started at N20 million and a car, but after much back-and-forth, we finally agreed on N5 million and a Toyota Corolla,” he explained.
He further detailed the difficult discussions that occurred between him, Barrister Deji Adeyanju, and the driver’s representatives. There was a lot of pressure to ensure the driver was properly compensated, as the assault had left him traumatized. “We argued for a while. Initially, they were offering too little, but we pushed hard,” VeryDarkMan recalled. The final settlement came after many negotiations, where the driver was promised N5 million and a Toyota Corolla to replace the car that had been seized during the incident.
Despite these efforts, the situation took another turn when the driver apparently began distancing himself from VeryDarkMan and Barrister Adeyanju. VeryDarkMan was upset to discover that the driver had bypassed him and Adeyanju to privately meet with the lawmaker and issue the apology. “We helped this guy through thick and thin, and now he’s acting like we never existed,” VeryDarkMan expressed his frustration. “The guy didn’t even carry us along. He went behind our backs to apologize without informing us.”
In his statement, VeryDarkMan accused the driver of being influenced by external factors, possibly financial inducements or pressure from powerful figures. “I don’t know what happened. Maybe they’ve threatened him, or maybe they’ve paid him to come out and do this,” he said. “It doesn’t make sense. You were harassed, abused, and assaulted, and now you’re apologizing to your oppressor?”
Despite these frustrations, VeryDarkMan remained committed to seeking justice for the driver. He warned that the situation was not over, mentioning that there were still aspects of the case that hadn’t been fully addressed. “Justice doesn’t have to mean someone going to jail, but we can’t just let this go without a thorough investigation,” he stated. He also emphasized that the lawmaker’s actions should not go unpunished, calling out the system for allowing the powerful to act with impunity.
The situation, as VeryDarkMan pointed out, highlighted the larger issue of accountability in Nigeria. He believed the apology and the quick settlement were a reflection of the challenges faced by ordinary Nigerians seeking justice, especially when dealing with powerful figures. “If we allow people like Hon. Ikwechegh to continue in power without being held accountable, it sets a dangerous precedent,” he warned.
As the situation develops, the public remains divided. While some sympathize with the Bolt driver, many feel that he has been pressured into retracting his statement. Others wonder whether financial compensation played a role in the driver’s change of heart.
VeryDarkMan concluded by expressing his disappointment, “I’m just really disappointed. We fought for you, and now you’ve made us look foolish.” He vowed to continue pushing for justice, stating, “This is not the end. We will look into every part of this case, and we will keep fighting for accountability.”
The drama surrounding the Bolt driver’s apology underscores the complexities of seeking justice in Nigeria, where power dynamics often leave ordinary citizens at a disadvantage.
