Delta Petrol Tanker Explosion

At least five people have tragically lost their lives in a devastating petrol tanker explosion in Agbor, located in the Ika South Local Government Area.

The explosion occurred along the Old Asaba-Lagos Road on Sunday afternoon, resulting in widespread destruction and multiple injuries, with millions of naira in property damage.

According to eyewitnesses, the explosion was triggered when the petrol tanker overturned while attempting to navigate a turn near First Bank in Agbor. One witness described the scene as chaotic and heart-wrenching, confirming that five people were confirmed dead, and the destruction continued, with two banks still engulfed in flames.

“It was truly a tragedy. As I rushed to the scene, I was struck by the horror of it all. The fire is still raging, and firefighters have yet to arrive,” the witness shared.

The absence of emergency responders has drawn criticism from locals, who are concerned about the delay in handling the fire. While the flames continue to consume the area, the full extent of the damage and loss is still being assessed.

Meanwhile, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has extended condolences to the families of the bereaved with many noting that the calamity caused by the Agbor petrol tanker explosion would have been worse had the incident been on a working day.
